There was an engineer called Nikola Tesla. And there are the motor companies Nikola and Tesla. Both like to be associated with the brilliance and originality of this man. Both are working on new and innovative concepts of transport. Both are about the future, bringing us from the old and present fossil world to a new more sustainable and cleaner world. The first with about hydrogen, the second about electric energy. Here we highlight Nikola.

HYLA, is the hydrogen solution of Nikola provides cost-effective solutions for hydrogen production, distribution, and dispensing. When combined with the Nikola Tre fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) it emits zero carbon, with water being the only byproduct. This approach solves the hydrogen fuel supply challenge to transition the commercial trucking industry to zero-emissions.
The Tongass National Forest in Southeast Alaska, an ara of 68,000 km2 (1.5 the size of The Netherlands) is in the news. The Biden administration has restored protections for this largest intact temperate rainforest, sometimes called America’s Amazon. It is remote enough to be home to many species of endangered and rare flora and fauna.
Biden restored in line with the views of Alaska’s tribal nations the original roadless rule, in 2020 been undone by President Donald Trump, this for logging and oil drilling purposes. Roadless area conservation is a conservation policy limiting road construction and the resulting environmental impact on designated areas of public land.
It is in fact strange that one person ( a president in this case) can undo or restore formal legislation for protection. I know democracy has its value, but this factor is from the perspective of the forest itself and all species living in it, not quite establishing a feeling of comfort, security and safety. Sometimes humans must not be granted any access to nature. Never. Hands off. Eternal protection from human greed.

Inmiddels zijn wij na de ontdekking van de eerste wolf – terug in Nederland! – enkele jaren geleden, volop in discussie geraakt hoe om te gaan met het dier dat wij als nomaden al zo vreesde. Het hele systeem van overheid en belangenorganisaties is in werking getreden om de wolf of te reguleren of juist zijn vrijheid te laten.
Ik haal toch even terug mijn bericht van 7 maart 2015, toen het nieuws van de ontdekking door Lieke alle krantenkoppen haalde.
De wolf staat aan de top van het ecosysteem, weten wij. Hij maakt het compleet. Hij is terug. In Drenthe. Zowaar geschiedschrijving na 150 jaar afwezigheid. De waarneming vanochtend door Lieke, is eigenlijk een puur moment.
Er is blijheid bij de ecologen dat de top van het ecosysteem is teruggekeerd ‘op het nest’. Maar goed de jagers zullen daar anders over denken, laat staan de agrariërs. Velen zullen volgen met een standpunt. De wolf wordt een politiek item, hoe dan ook. Maar nu nog niet.
Dit moment, vandaag, is er één van puurheid. Er is iets ‘oers’ terug Nederland . De wolf is niet alleen een sprookjesfiguur maar een ware metafoor van wildernis. Hij spreekt tot onze verbeelding om zijn waarneming en kracht. En wij weten ook dat alle honden, onze huisdiervrienden, ervan afstammen, hoe klein ook. De wolf staat aan de basis. Hij is de oer-hond.
De euforie van de waarneming is nu nog ontdaan van incidenten, van schade aan veestapel of erger mensen, van economische benadeling, van politieke vragen, raadsdebatten, nieuwe wet- en regelgeving en vele beleidsplannen. Van datgene dat ons Nederlanders zo typeert: het willen beheersen, inkaderen en controleren.
Ik geniet nog even van de spontane kreet van Lieke, toen zij de eerst wolf waarnam: “Kijk papa, daar loopt een wolf!”. Hoe mooi kan het zijn.
Net nieuw op de wereld laat op de zaterdagavond 12 februari 2022. Jochem. Ik ontmoet je als ik je in mijn armen sluit. Woorden komen niet, tranen wel en Il primo libro di canzone van Andre Falconieri danst door mijn hoofd. Deze muziek raakt de ziel van jouw dans die ik voor mij zie. Jij, mooi nieuw leven.
