Kan Congo de wereld redden?

Congobekken: eerste long van de wereld, waterpomp van de aarde, koelsysteem en wonder van biodiversiteit. Hoe bescherm je het woud en zorg je tegelijk voor meer welvaart voor de lokale bevolking?

Dat het Amazonewoud belangrijk is voor ons klimaat is genoegzaam bekend. Veel minder geweten is dat de tropische wouden in Centraal-Afrika als mondiale stofzuiger van CO2 ondertussen belangrijker dan het Amazonewoud zijn: het Congobekken herbergt de eerste long van de wereld.

Daarnaast is het ook de op een na grootste waterpomp van de aarde, het tweede grootste koelsysteem én een wonder van biodiversiteit. De planeet heeft er alle belang bij om het in stand te houden. Wat heet: een moeilijke evenwichtsoefening.

Pattern of Lobby

‘Lobby’ means ‘seek to influence (a legislator) on an issue’. The government (blue) is often surrounded by companies (yellow) influencing policy and decision-making on society’s chessboard. This is an art impression.

Intervention

 

An intervention can be powerful. If the system is mainly yellow-based, then blue can ignite change. Sometimes, it is needed for a better course or outcome to interfere with a condition or a process to prevent harm or improve functioning (Merriam-Webster).

The print is positioned in this office lobby as a permanent reminder that this powerful instrument is and should always be directly available for all the employees of this organisation. It is there to stimulate involvement in good governance. Intervention is considered as key for innovation, and not as a disturbance of the existing. It is an encouragement to participate.

Change can start – in a metaphoric way-, with an intervention, with just one stroke of a brush.

Uitslag Verkiezingen

De uitslag van de landelijke 2023 verkiezingen in Nederland zou zich als volgt kunnen laten lezen…

Voor in het museum tezijnertijd. Kunnen onze kinderen nog eens terugkijken en er even voor gaan zitten. Hier mijn kleindochter Nine Jackie in 2084 met haar man.
