De Eiger, Mönch en Jungfrau zijn mijn thuis. Ik heb ze vanaf mijn kindertijd zo vaak bezocht. Deze indrukwekkende bergen hebben elk hun eigen karakter en stijl. Je hebt werkelijk al je vaardigheden nodig om ze te beklimmen. Hier, als schilderij in de vroege herfst – en zonder enige menselijke invloed – vanuit het perspectief van de Männlichen. Alle menselijke invloeden zijn weggelaten. Het is het oorspronkelijk landschap zoals het er duizenden jaren reeds was.

Ik draag dit schilderij op aan mijn ouders Ad Kruf en Corry Huyssons en mijn dochters Renée, Michelle en Louise, die verbonden zijn met deze bergen.

The Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau and are home to me. I visited them so many times from childhood on. These impressive mountains each have their own character and style. You actually need all your skills to climb them. Here, as a painting in early autumn – and without the world of human interference – from Männlichen’s perspective. All human influences are left away. IIt is the landscape as it has been for thousands of years.

I dedicate this painting to my parents Ad Kruf en Corry Huyssons and my daughters Renée, Michelle and Louise, who are connected with these mountains.

Keltische Wijsheid

In dit landschap vormen de rotsvaste Keltische menhirs een prachtig contrast met de levendige dynamiek van de lucht. Dit schilderij is geïnspireerd op de cover van het album The Philosopher’s Stone van Van Morrison. Volgens King et al. (2018) draait de wijsheid van de Kelten om een diepgaande, heilige verbondenheid met de natuur, waarbij al het leven als onderling verbonden en goddelijk wordt beschouwd. Hun wereldbeeld legde de nadruk op de heiligheid van alledaagse dingen, het eren van levenscycli (dood en wedergeboorte), het vertellen van verhalen, gastvrijheid en het evenwicht tussen de fysieke wereld en de ‘andere wereld’. Ze hechtten veel waarde aan krijgersethiek, vrouwelijke kracht en een diep respect voor de natuurlijke omgeving dat haar basis vindt in de driehoek aarde, water en lucht.

In this landscape, the rock-solid Celtic menhirs stand in high contrast with the high dynamics of the sky. This painting is inspired on the cover of the album The Philosopher’s Stone (1968) by Van Morrison. According King et al. (2018) the wisdom of the Celts is centered on a profound, sacred connection to nature, seeing all life as interconnected and divine. Their worldview emphasized the holiness of everyday things, honoring life cycles (death and rebirth), storytelling, hospitality, and the balance between the physical and “otherworld”. They valued warrior ethics, feminine power, and deep respect for the natural environment, which is rooted in the triad of earth, water and air.

Het was een mooie dag!

Het was een mooie dag vandaag op het strand. Toen kwamen de wolken. Wij dachten: “Wij pakken in en gaan huiswaarts. Onze strandbal contrasteert zo mooi met de donkere luchten boven zee.”

It was a lovely day at the beach today. Then the clouds rolled in. We thought: ‘We’ll pack up and head home. Our beach ball looks so striking against the dark skies over the sea.’

Zeezuiper wildernis

In het natuurgebied Zoomland ten oosten van Bergen op Zoom, ligt dit moeras de Zeezuiper. De natuur mag er haar gang gaan. Een stukje wildernis. De vele dode bomen vormen de basis voor nieuw leven voor met name insecten, vogels en zwammen. Een kleurenpalette van de natuur.

Een quote van John Muir (1838 -1914) – één van de eerste bepleiters van de bescherming van natuurgebieden in de Amerikaanse wildernis – past hier goed bij: “And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul”.

In the Zoomland nature reserve, east of Bergen op Zoom, lies the Zeezuiper marsh. Here, nature is allowed to take its course. A little piece of wilderness. The many dead trees provide a foundation for new life, particularly for insects, birds and fungi. A palette of nature’s colours.

A quote from John Muir (1838–1914) – one of the first advocates for the protection of nature reserves in the American wilderness – fits well here: “And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul”.
