Time Square in New York toont haar palette. Een ode aan de afvalbak en de taxi. Met de vele putdeksels naar de onderwereld van de stad, is het bovengronds een schouwspel van kleuren.

Times Square in New York displays its palette. An ode to the rubbish bin and the taxi. With its many manhole covers leading to the cityโ€™s underworld, above ground it is a spectacle of colours.

Geschilderd op basis van fotomateriaal uit 1963 van vaderlief Ad Kruf. Links staat de Sint Maartenschool. Een stukje heem, want de straat op dit deel is anno 2026 sterk veranderd. Het is de Bernhardstraat in zuidelijke richting, naar Vijverstraat en Sint Maartensplein (de huizen in de verte).

Blue Hotel

In een voorstad, langs een doorgaande weg, ligt dit hotel. De avond is reeds gevallen. De zon is onder, de maan eist haar plek. Het hotel ademt een leegte van buiten, tegelijkertijd de uitnodigende warmte binnen. Stoppen of doorrijden bij Blue Hotel?

Gent Silhouet

Een silhouet in het centrum van de stad Gent, Vlaanderen, Belgiรซ. Eens was zij het bestuurlijke centrum van Europa in de vroege 16e eeuw. Nu is zij nog steeds een prachtige en vooral goed bestuurde stad. Het is stil op deze vroege ochtend in januari. Er is geen mens op straat.

A still reminder on the office. Society seen from above. From a citizen, street or society perspective, one can count 64 governments active at the same time. Need care? There are many offices, companies and subsystems busy. Stop at one point in a street and count the different operational policy plans or consider the distinct accent of responsibilities in the diverse governmental layers and teams of mayors, aldermen, deputies or ministers. One government does not exist, only in our minds. 64 is magic and, at the same time, from a governance perspective, an impossible number because of the fragmentation and segmentation of responsibilities, rules and regulations.
