The story behind
The Four Freedoms, articulated in 1941 by U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, are about four fundamental freedoms that people “everywhere in the world” ought to enjoy, that of speech, worship, want and fear. Anno 2023 more and more citizens do not experience (one of) these freedoms. It is often the (absolute) power of governing institutions over the people which develop a dominating frame with rules and regulations. It then leaves the citizen with hardly any breathing space, creativity and freedom in its living world.
Wall art
This rectangle archival pigment print of the city canvas with Pantone® colours Black 6c (system world) and Terra Cotta (citizen) is perfect for a modern, classic and reflective look in home and office interiors. It is an urgent reminder how rules and regulations reduce freedom and creativity. The Pantone® colour Bright White (living world) is missing.

Stimulating Frame
The story behind
The Four Freedoms, articulated in 1941 by U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, are about four fundamental freedoms that people “everywhere in the world” ought to enjoy, that of speech, worship, want and fear. For that a stimulating and wide frame by government (and its system world) is needed, if not conditional. It will give the citizen maximum breathing space, creativity and freedom in its living world. Four freedoms would be great.

Lost in the City
The story behind
The citizen and the city. Many novels, philosophies, songs and poems have been written about this relation. From the daily perspective of city governance a myriad of stories about life in the city can to be told. The idea came up to express the canvas of the city as the 64 fields of the chess board. An eagle view, from above. There the living and the system world meet and form the fibre of society. The citizen can be lost and get disconnected with life as well as the system.

System World Canvas
The story behind
Philosopher Jürgen Habermas distinguishes the living world and the system world. In the living world people and teams live and communicate between equals, based on arguments and without power. It is the world where love and friendship are leading and daily life dominates. It is the white canvas on which we are born, walk, live and die.
In the system world the instrumental rationality is used and says or dictates what and who is necessary to achieve a goal or to carry out a task. It is the world of rules, regulations, procedures and guidelines. It is the black canvas, in fact the chess board, on which most decisions of public governance are made. In the background though we find the living world, not dominant but present.

This rectangle archival pigment print of the city canvas with Pantone® Bright White and Pantone® Black 6c is perfect for a modern, classic and reflective look in home and office interiors. It is a reminder on the wall, that the governance of our society is strongly dominated by this palette of black.
